Course Aims

A one-day course designed to give delegates an opportunity to explore the concept of equality and diversity and provide the necessary skills and knowledge to implement equal opportunities within the workplace.

At the end of the workshop, delegates will be:

• Explain the legal and business case for being a diverse organisation
• Explore values, belief systems and prejudices
• Identify where the negative thoughts come from and how to overcome them
• Explore work styles, understanding the differences and how to work with them
• Explore communication skills
• Examine case studies and discuss reactions to various scenarios
• Identify how to become a more diverse organisation

The Business Case for Diversity Values and Beliefs

• Where our belief system comes from
• Negative v Positive thoughts and experiences
• How this impacts on our prejudices

Understanding Work Styles and Communication

• The different ways in which we approach work
• How to understand and deal with those differences
• Understanding communication and how this impacts on our ability to embrace diversity

Case Studies

• To explore our attitudes and behaviours towards a diverse cross section of the community
• Actions we can take to make our own organisation more diverse
