What makes an effective team?

• Discussion to draw out participant's own experiences of teamwork

Understanding teams

• Belbin - an explanation of the 9 team roles
• The 4 work styles - Producer, Administrator, Entrepreneur and Integrator
• How these roles and work styles impact on teamwork
• Effective teams

Recruiting and managing an effective team

• The importance of clearly defined job roles
• How to use job profiles for effective recruitment
• The importance of considering diversity when recruiting and building a team
• How to handle the 'difficult' team member

Practical Activity

• Using a pre-prepared case study, each group will discuss the required attitude, skill and knowledge required when choosing the team
• How to allocate the right tasks to each team member
• Linking back to Belbin and Work Styles
• How to overcome objections to instructions orcommands
• Feedback and discussion

Practical Activity

• Dealing with conflict within a team
• Identifying ways to deal with changing priorities and objectives

Defining Team Goals

• Setting SMART objectives
• Understanding why the team is in place and what it is there to achieve
• Tuckman's team development model - Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing

Practical Team Activity - Change of Direction

• 2 teams each working on same activity and experiencing working together as a team
• Debrief to explore what happened during the activity and learning opportunities
